Metro Computerworks offers data recovery service for failed PC or
Macintosh computers. The sobering reality is that any hard drive might
eventually fail. Average lifespan of a hard drive should far exceed the
life of the computer, but sometimes it does not. All important data on
your
hard drive needs to always be on more than one hard drive to reduce
risk of data loss.
The
likelihood of getting your data back easily and economically has
everything to do with whether the hard drive has mechnically failed or
not. Try to decide which scenario listed below is yours. You may CALL
US if you're not
sure, and we're happy to advise.
Call
our partners DriveSavers
if you are already sure you have a physically failed hard drive. Use
referral number DS12360
for a discount and "free for trying" if they cannot get data.
DriveSavers offers a no-risk free evaluation and proposal before you
buy. Scenarios
1,2, and 3 can handled by us in the shop without contacting DriveSavers.
Scenario 1) Failed computer but
hard drive OK.
If some part that's not the computer's hard drive fails (motherboard,
power supply, laptop screen), you cannot use the computer, but the hard
drive is likely stilll working, and the data can be rescued to a new
computer in the event that you are not choosing repair or replacement
of the failed part.
Scenario 2) Hard drive OK, but
Operating System damaged.
Here, there are three options.
A) Remove the hard drive and connect it to a shop computer and retreive
the data to a different hard drive, CD or DVD, or USB external drive.
B) Repair or overhaul/tune-up
the Operating System to bring it back to working order. Your data
remains safe if the hard drive is healthy.
C) Remove the hard drive and install it into an external USB enclosure
so that it can be used as backup, or to connect to a new
computer.
Scenanario 3) Hard drive failing;
still spinning and sometimes works.
Some hard drives work sporadically for a time before failing. If we can
remove and connect the drive to a shop computer, we may be able to get
lucky and quickly copy the data to a new drive. Sometimes we can get
the hard drive to last long enough to get your most important files.
Contact
DriveSavers
if either of the next two scenarios applies.
Please our referral number DS12360
to receive a 10% discount on recovery. Also with this referral number
the attempt is no-charge if they cannot retrieve your data. Drive
Savers is a clean room data recovery facility that disassembles your
hard drive for recovery. It is a sophisticated facility with highly
skilled technicians. Their success rate for recovery is over 90
percent. There is no similar clean-room facility in the state of Oregon.
Scnenario
4) Hard drive OK, but data was erased intentionally or accidentally by
deleting folders or erasing the hard drive.
You may find or hear about data recovery software to bring back erased
or trashed files and folders. You may try these at your own risk. We do
not utlilize any of them for our customers. If they fail you may make
actully decrease the chance of successful recovery if you have the hard
drive sent out.
Scenario 5) Hard drive physically
failed - either not spinning, or making a clicking or grinding sound.
We have no way in the shop to retreive data from a physically failed
hard drive. Contact DriveSavers by clicking on the
image below. Give them referral number DS12360. Or, buy a
new hard drive. We sell the hard drives here at the shop - new Western
Digital brand, and we can reinstall the Operating System, with all
drivers and updates, plus antivirus protection.
